Bioshock Infinite - Undertow Vigor by StormbloodCurio Bioshock Infinite - Undertow Vigor by StormbloodCurio
Here is Undertow, the first completed in my new Bioshock Infinite Vigor line. I use actual antique bottles and sculpt the outer design. After a paint job and the label is applied, I hand-age the entire piece. This is life-sized and also a fully functional flask with cork stopper.

I use Polymer clay and acrylics....and TONS of sealer coatings to give it some durability.

Keep your eyes peeled for the rest to be released. :3

My pricing ranges dependent on hours and materials. So it totally ranges based on the project!

The best way to inquire about pricing and work information would be to email me directly at stormbloodcuriosities@gmail.com or message me on the official FB page (facebook.com/stormbloodcuriosities)

With most of the vigors from Infinite, it's all about nailing the sculpts around the bottles....With Undertow, what really helped was finding the perfect antique cobalt glass bottle to be it's base. I am a serious antique hunter, so I scouted many of my local shops to find the best bottles for Undertow...Though searching online can be just as fruitful!

If you were to look for Undertow bottles online, I would suggest searching for terms like "Vintage Blue Glass Bottle" or "Cobalt Bottle" or even more specifically vintage medicinal bottles meant for things like Milk of Magnesia (That is the style of the bottle you see here).

Symmetry is also super important with this bottle design. I started with a sketch of the octopus sculpt design, but actually only one side of it. I folded over a paper across a vertical line, to mirror image the design for tracing. Once I had that all sorted out, it was basically just cutting of the clay in that sketched shape and then shaping and rounding out on the bottle itself.

Basecoating with a flat color on the clay is also a good start (Maybe a bluish or grey hue), and then applying trace amounts of metallic paints over the base. If you added wear-marks (scratches, dents, other fake imperfections from use) to the clay, the sponging on of metallic colors looks even nicer.

Doing a project like this, you will find you learn your own little shortcuts and tricks to make it go smoothly. It's all about trial and error!

I hope this helps get you started!

Wow, now that's what you call one outstanding level of detail, damn think we need to call Ken Levine just to extra cheer on this brilliant piece of art!

Man you were a big fan of the game to take something like an old bottle and give it the treatment and honor for that of a Vigor, can only hope and pray that 2K gets the idea to try and share something like this to every Bioshock fan can have their own favorite Vigor at home, lol.

Still your focus and dedication to your work shows nothing but perfection from top to bottom. Even the fact that you nailed the coriliong and winding twists of the tentacles as they grasp the bottle to even the twisting tentacle top shows you really know your stuff.

Have to admit rather stunned at seeing the way you managed to even get the retro icon of the Undertow squid in the middle of the vigor and even further stretch that larger and more golden version of the squid to cover the rest of the bottle, damn.

Seems like your research paid off though as you nailed everything from the iconic blue glow that emits from the bottle itself and even the smaller points of detail like the wear on the twist-off top to even the circle of dots that make up the iconic emblem of the squid.

Think you should take some extra time to pat yourself on the back for the brilliant piece of work you've managed to craft here StormbloodCurio, and all the best of luck to you with the rest of your vigors, can only imagine how many more minds will be blown away by your skilled craftsmanship (no doubt alot).

Thank you for SUCH an amazing review of my vigor! This seriously made my day, and I am just happy that onlookers can hopefully gather as much joy from viewing it - as I totally had while creating it!

I tried as hard as I could to stay true to the original in-game vigor, though even as I was sculpting it I wanted so badly to improve upon it's design! I may do a special line of these that more so cater to my -own- Vigor visions..... :P

Again, thank you for putting so much thought and encouragement into your wonderful comment. I hope to further impress you with the rest of my work!

Extremely deep apologies to have taken so long to get back to you Storm, busy catching up on the DA so its taken quite some time to get as far back as this!

Regardless definitely did drop a jaw to say the least to your work on the Undertow vigor, the detail alone would have Ken Levine at your door shaking your hand, or at least Booker DeWitt, lol.

Can see what you mean when you want to add to something to make it dazzle to you more but anything hats off to your dedication alone that kept yourself focused all the way through to deliver the final product. And heck create your own vigor sounds like a slick idea, definitely might ask for a sample, lol.

Think your work alone is enough to impress Storm but if anything promise to make up and check out your new Murder of Crows craft. Oh Rapture, dreams do come true! ^O^

First off, great job on the vigor! Ive sculpted a working murder of crows vigor and im looking to do more. Undertow or Devils Kiss is going to be the next one, as you can imagine the correct bottle for undertow is pretty difficult to find. Do you know what type of bottle it was to help narrow my search? Unfortunately in my town we dont have to many antique shops, so im limited to goodwill/ salvation army, online stores or major markets. In case your interested heres my Murder of Crows. Again, love the work on this!

Hello! I -LOVE- your Murder of Crows! The box and presentation of it is fantastic, as well.

Your best option is going to be searching online for vintage "Cobalt" bottles, most commonly used for medicinal like Milk of Magnesia. They can range in size from only 3" tall to even 10". The necks are always different in height and style, so really finding one to your own preference would not be too hard.

Sometimes folks do not know what to call "cobalt glass", so searching for terms like "Vintage blue glass bottle" is usually pretty successful. I use local antique shops for finding my perfect glass, but finding the perfect types in a goodwill or Salvation Army would be pretty hard!

I hope that helps answer your question!
